Welcome
to this issue of Benchmarking Pulse. Your
continued participation ensures the quality of our benchmarking database.
Year to date, we’ve had 100 business units renew their participation
through our 2002 Performance Scorecards. This continued refresh of data,
in conjunction with Benchmarking Pulse, enables us to act as a
collaborative forum to provide our customers with fact-based frameworks to
help make more informed decisions. To be successful in providing you with
relevant research, we also use Benchmarking Pulse as an exchange of
ideas to help us understand what topics are most pertinent to your
business.

Signals
of Performance: Driving
Electronics Systems Manufacturing Efficiencies on the Factory Floor—As OEMs add functionality and complexity to their products, they must
evolve their processes for building, testing, and configuring those
products to maintain the quality and delivery reliability that their
customers expect. Our latest research examines manufacturing performance
levels and practices in the electronics industry and provides insight into
what some companies are doing to combat this problem.
Upcoming Webcasts
PMG hosts interactive webcasts to elaborate on our latest research. Each webcast provides attendees with metrics,
analyses, and insight from our benchmarking analysts and often
includes a case study on how a participating company is using the
Scorecard to improve their business results. To attend an upcoming
webcast, contact us for
instructions.
Signals
of Performance: Driving
Electronics Systems Manufacturing Efficiencies on the Factory Floor
Tuesday, April 30, 11:00 AM (EDT)/8:00 AM (PDT)/5:00 PM (CEST)
This
conference is targeted for engineering and manufacturing managers involved
in test and assembly of consumer electronics and electronic systems in
telecommunications, semiconductors and other electronics industry segments. Through this
interactive session, you'll learn about current and emerging manufacturing
practices.
Agenda
-
Latest
performance levels and practices in system assembly, functional text,
environmental test and final assembly
-
Case
study: Strategy for improving assembly and test performance at a major
semiconductor equipment company
Time-to-Market
Excellence in the Semiconductor Industry
Tuesday, May 7, 11:00 AM (EDT)/8:00 AM (PDT)/5:00 PM (CEST)
This
conference is targeted for R&D personnel and project managers in
the semiconductor industry. Through this interactive session, you will
gain insight into how to improve project execution and overall
time-to-market (TTM) capabilities at your company.
Agenda
-
Latest
performance levels and practices in project execution. For example,
PMG's benchmarking research shows that best-in-class semiconductor
companies are 60% more effective at deriving new-product profits from
their R&D investments than average semiconductor companies.
-
Case
study of a global semiconductor client that was challenged by
ever-decreasing product cycles and increasing levels of integration.
See the issues they faced in attempting to improve their results and
the actual results they achieved in reducing TTM.
Signals
of Performance: Cross-Company Collaboration in Product Development
Wednesday, May 22 at 11:00
AM (EDT)/8:00 AM (PDT)/5:00 PM (CEST)
In
this webcast, we will review our latest research based on a survey
conducted in support of The First International PDMA/MRT Congress on
Co-Developing Products, held in January 2002. The survey sheds light
on:
-
Why
co-development is important
-
The
degree to which companies are collaborating with partners
-
Current
co-development performance
-
Major
obstacles to effective collaboration
-
Deployment
of specific management practices

How
Effective Are
Your Technology Development Practices?
Based on
your feedback, PMG will be developing a
technology management survey to
help answer this key
question. Our goal is to help you assess
business practices
surrounding the
identification, selection,
development, and transfer of
new technologies and to
prepare you to make the
right decisions for
effective technology
management.
Let us
know below if you are interested in completing this brief
15–20 minute
free questionnaire.
A complimentary report on
the research results will be sent to participants, contingent upon
achieving a minimum population. We would like to hear your thoughts on
this upcoming technology
management questionnaire. Please
answer the
following brief questions.
|
What technology management
area are you most interested in exploring?
Is there a particular question
you would like to see included in the technology management survey?
I am interested in completing
the 10–15 minute survey, please send me more information:
Do you have any other
questions or comments?

Development Performance Scorecard
Use the PD Scorecard to assess
your pipeline and portfolio management practices and measure key
performance metrics. To provide you with research that is relevant to
your operations, let us know the areas of product
development that are of most interest to companies today. Please take a
moment and select the three topics below that are important to you and your
organization.
Supply
Chain: New
Service Parts Performance
Scorecard
Over a dozen
consumer and enterprise electronics spares/repairs operations—including
business units of IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Kodak, Lexmark, Palm, Philips, and
Decision One—are currently participating in a collaborative forum to
benchmark key performance metrics. The
survey is open to organizations that provide product warranty and service
contract support for a variety of products ranging from consumer
electronics, such as PDAs and laptops, to
complex systems such as semiconductor capital equipment. Surveys are due back to PMG in
May.
Contact
us if you’d like to participate.
New
PMG Participants
Over
45 business units have purchased Scorecards since our last issue of Benchmarking
