The concept of
operations at leading companies is changing. No longer does it apply simply to
the manufacturing of products. Rather, it applies to the concept of managing a
supply chain spanning from suppliers' suppliers to customers' customers. In
fact, effectively configuring your supply chain can be a source of sustainable
competitive advantage.
Our benchmarking studies show
that superior performance is attainable when a company can integrate the Plan,
Source, Make, Deliver, and Return processes of its supply chain operations. For
example, PMG's latest research shows that discrete manufacturers with mature
supply chain practices are 40% more profitable than discrete manufacturers with
less mature practices. Although other factors such as product innovation and
channel management certainly contribute to this profit edge, supply chain
management is a key driver. Read the complete report:

What is the
Supply Chain Performance Indicator?
PMG's Supply Chain Performance
Indicator is a comprehensive service designed to assess your performance by
benchmarking you against companies within your industry. In addition to
measuring your performance, you will also receive guidance on how to interpret
your benchmark results, identify improvement opportunities, and take the next
steps toward achieving excellence.
The Supply Chain Performance
Indicator uses a performance scorecard, customized benchmarks, and a practice
assessment to help you understand where the favorable and unfavorable gaps
exist in your operations. Through this valuable information, we can help you
determine which improvement initiatives will yield the most strategic value to
your company and which will provide you with the highest return on your
investment. This solution-based offering uses your benchmarking reports to
create a proactive plan for attaining results-driven business opportunities.
The Supply Chain Performance
Indicator draws upon PRTM's supply chain thought leadership and the combined
benchmarking expertise of PRTM and PMG developed over the past 12 years. PMG,
endorsed by The Supply Chain Council as a benchmarking partner, utilizes a
standard set of metrics based on the industry standard
Supply Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR), which PRTM was
instrumental in developing.
Do I need a
sophisticated database to use the Indicator?
While a meaningful benchmarking
exercise requires significant amounts of data, it is not necessary or even
common for a new PMG participant to have this information readily available in
an easy-to-extract format. A majority of our participants are still in the
process of defining the supply chain internally as they begin the task of
quantifying and comparing supply chain performance with PMG. Our detailed
definitions and calculations give our participants the necessary direction
required for completing the study regardless of the maturity of their IT
systems and internal databases. Performance measurement in the absence of
sophisticated data tools allows companies to introduce and define metrics that
are not currently measured or understood.
