Why
should I benchmark?
Benchmarking is an
important tool in measuring and improving your company’s performance.
This process enables you to identify your performance gaps and target the
improvement areas that will provide the most benefit.
What
do I receive?
Participants receive the following:
-
Performance Scorecards
(quantitative and qualitative)
-
Access to PMG database
-
Ability
to create custom benchmarking
reports
-
Data
collection support
-
Interpretation
of results and suggestion on improvement
initiatives
How
many business units should we
benchmark, and can we simply submit
one survey that captures data for all areas of the company in a rolled-up
fashion?
A full organization response can be easier to
execute, and the comparative statistics will allow managers to highlight
general issues. However, responses at the business-unit level, while
requiring additional effort, provide more granular information and can
therefore be used to pinpoint specific tactical issues. If you want to
compare the performance of business units within your enterprise, we
recommend participating at the business unit level.
What
types of resources will we need and how much time will it take to execute
the survey?
The questionnaire was designed to take approximately
6–8 hours for companies that actively measure their capabilities.
Companies who do not collect these data may require an additional four
hours. Typically, an experienced manager would contribute most of the
time, and a skilled financial analyst would execute the balance.
Upon request, PMG is available to
support you onsite with your data
collection efforts.
What
metrics will be used?
We have developed industry averages and best-in-class
statistics in the areas of Plan, Source, Make, and Deliver. Target metrics
are based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference-model (SCOR) developed
by PRTM and adopted by the Supply Chain Council.

Who
am I being compared against in my
benchmark reports?
The
Create a Benchmark feature allows you to customize your reports based on the
criteria that you choose (revenue, industry, etc.). For an additional
cost, PMG can provide you with a custom population based on the companies
that you choose (if they are participants).
When will I receive my reporting/results?
You will receive
your Performance Scorecard, Data
Table, and Practice Assessment 48 hours after submitting
your data. However, if for some reason your data are not complete or valid,
your reporting will be delayed.
How
will performance be compared?
Your company’s data are shown in tabular form
against the average and the best-in-class for your industry segment for
all metrics. This information is available online 24 hours a day, seven
days a week. In addition, our
Create a Benchmark self-service
online custom analysis allows you to develop cross-segment, sub-segment,
or other custom populations for comparison.
What
technology do I need?
To participate, you simply need to have access to
Internet Explorer. PMG will provide you with your own personal user name and
password to access the questionnaire and your individual reports.
How
is data confidentiality ensured?
The Performance Measurement
Group, LLC (PMG) employs the same
rigorous confidentiality standards
that made PRTM the leader in
benchmarking for over 10 years. No
company-specific performance data
will ever be divulged, and
participants are only able to
access aggregate data. Both the
data entry and reporting sites
employ password-protected
registration so that only
authorized users can access
data.
PMG
is using the latest in Internet
technology that provides
additional security to ensure the
highest protection against
unauthorized access to your data
exchange across the Internet. Our
data entry system utilizes Windows
2000 Server security and VeriSign
custom security protocols.
Security is achieved by encrypting
the information being transmitted
across the Internet. Encryption is
a means of scrambling information
for transmission between your
computer and PMG. Information that
is encrypted at one end is
decrypted (decoded) upon receipt
at the other end. The level of
encryption is described by the
number of bits—the greater the
number, the stronger the
encryption. PMG uses 128 bit
encryption, the highest level of
encryption publicly available.
This is the same standard that
web-based companies routinely use
when requesting credit card
numbers and other sensitive
materials over the Internet.
What
happens after I receive my online
reports?
Benchmarking
is only effective if you
understand your results and take
the appropriate action. Once you
have received your online reports,
one of our industry experts will
help you interpret the results and
work with your team to understand
what the next steps are for
maximizing the return on suggested
improvement opportunities. (more)
